African dance (September 5, 2002)
Following a workshop, Mamadou N’Dour with his dancers and musicians presented traditional dances from Senegal, including a spectacular stilts piece. The group alternated with Angola’s Rosa Maria’s performance. Finally, Omar Ka and his Fula Band created a sparkling party.
Hindu and Spanish dance (September 6, 2002)
Abhimanyu Lal conducted a kathak workshop with Harriet IJssel de Schepper conducting a flamenco workshop. Later that evening they danced an exciting duel in which the roots of both dances were revealed. The audience joyfully danced to the sound of Drhoeh Nankoe with his ensemble and Luna Alta Mar.
Gypsy dance (September 8, 2002)
Shaksi Gopal and his dancers performed Rajastan gypsy dances from India, followed by Daniel Sandu doing Russian ‘Wjengjerka’ tap dance and performances by Susanna Akhverdova. Susanna and Desiree Rebel conducted the workshops and I Quadrini ended the evening with Hungarian and Rumanian gypsy music as well as Yiddish klezmer.
Breakdance, Hiphop and Capoeira (September 7, 2002)
Andy Navarro conducted a breakdance workshop with Vladimir Frama providing a capoeira workshop. Later Batique Capoeira presented a Fuzue show, including hip-hop and freestyle. After the show, Moreira Vanderlei’s Brazilian drummers created a rhythmic dance party.
