Oriental dance
Jindra Kessener and Mariska Assink danced mystical Egyptian, Moroccan and Turkish dances
accompanied by Mohammed Benchakchak and the Al Andalus band. Arabesk provided the dance
music, playing stimulating rai and sha’abi.
African dance
With his colourful musicians, master drummer and dancer Aja Addy from Ghana performed
ritual dances. Together with the dance group Kisinguila, they brought down the spiegeltent.
Laye Diallo and Oke Sene conducted the workshops.
Caribbean dance
Franklin Jameson collaborated with Sitiha Ouled el Kadi and the Claudio Gomez Dance Company to dance salsa, meringue and mambo. Ritmo Caliente played New York and Cuban salsa, alternating with bolero and meringue. Steve Bridgewater conducted a street dance workshop for kids.
Hindu and Spanish dance
Kelly Varma with Archana Soekoe danced an Indian Kathak, Mariska Assink performed an Indian Oriental dance and Yvette Groot presented Flamenco. All these dances, influenced by each other, share the same fabulous footwork. The program started with Jozef Soekhai’s Hindi pop. Later the final evening Dhroeh Nankoe’s Hindu ensemble performed with flamenco guitarist Alain Labrie.
