African dance (May 9, 2002)
Amadou M’Baye Niang and Filomena Almeida conducted two workshops, after which Mamadou N’Dour with his dancers and musicians presented traditional dances from Senegal, including a spectacular stilts piece. Finally, Omar Ka and his Fula Band created a sparkling party.
Gypsy dance (May 10, 2002)
Shaksi Gopal and his dancers performed Rajastan gypsy dances from India, followed by Daniel Sandu doing Russian tap dance: ‘Wjengjerka’. Next Susanna Akhverdova gave a performance and Dominike Karantzounis presented a new choreography. Susanna and Desiree Rebel conducted workshops and I Quadrini ended the evening with traditional gypsy music.
Tango (May 12, 2002)
Jacques Berendsen and Ina Hulshof conducted two tango workshops, with both giving a performance in the evening, followed by Jorge Fataurus and Claudia Jacobsen. ‘Scenes from Macbeth’, an impassioned mixture of pure tango and contemporary theatre, was performed by Martine Berghuijs and Bennie Bartels. Finally, Sexteto Canyengue and Carel Kraaijenhof played out of this world tango music.
Brazilian dance (May 11, 2002)
Suzana Martins from Brazil conducted a workshop, introducing the candomble dance from Salvador de Bahia, later giving a performance together with Helios dos Santos Almeida. Vladimir Frama conducted a capoeira workshop. The groovy music of the band Carne de Soul completed the evening.
